Summer at Heritage Landing: Making Memories at Fort Benning

There is something special about summer at Fort Benning. The days are long, the Georgia heat is very real, an afternoon thunderstorm can appear out of nowhere, and somehow there is always something happening just outside the front door.

This summer, our Heritage Landing residents gave us a glimpse of the season through their eyes, and the photos captured so much of what makes life on post at Fort Benning unique.

There were plenty of pool days, of course. Nothing says a Georgia summer quite like spending the afternoon in the water with friends and neighbors. But some of our favorite moments happened closer to home, with kids splashing in front yards, jumping through puddles and making the most of the mud left behind by one of our many summer rainstorms. We may not always appreciate the rain, but clearly some of our youngest residents do!

Other photos captured the moments that turn neighborhoods into communities. Families celebrated the Fourth of July together, neighbors gathered for an outdoor movie night, and kids took over the street for a game of hockey. They are simple summer moments, but they are the ones that often become the memories families carry with them long after a PCS.

That is one of the things we love most about on-post living at Fort Benning. Home extends beyond the walls of your house. It is the pool down the street, the neighbor your kids run outside to play with, the front yard turned into a splash zone and the familiar faces gathered together for a summer evening.

Military life can bring plenty of change, but a summer spent at Heritage Landing is also filled with opportunities to slow down, connect with neighbors and enjoy the community around you.

As backpacks come back out and another school year begins, we loved having the chance to look back at the sunny, rainy, muddy, splash-filled summer our residents shared with us.
